About
Reading blogs about sustainability, ’Plastic Free’, and ‘Zero Waste’ can be more than a little overwhelming at times. It’s like Alice innocently following a little white rabbit down the garden, and falling into a completely new world where everything is equal measures of weird, wonderful, and confusing.
It’s no wonder therefore that so many of us quickly scramble out, and return to our normal lives. But it doesn’t have to be quite so daunting.
Here I will be posting about lots of little changes I’ll be making over the next 12 months, all with the aim of becoming more sustainable.
Every 4 weeks, from Wednesday 2nd September 2020, I’ll be taking on a new challenge, and reviewing the previous one. Giving you all the details: the pros, the cons, how easy it was for me to make the change to my lifestyle, how expensive it was, how time-consuming. All the information you’ll need to decide whether it’s a change you could make to your own life, to become a little more sustainable too.
I want to keep it plain and simple, just me living my normal life, but making a few different decisions along the way. Don’t understand something or want to know more, just drop me a message on Insta or Twitter and I’ll get back to you.
Our Turn
So, whether you’re a first time dabbler or an avid Sustainability guru, this blog should have something for you. This is all about the 1% changes, the power of our decisions as individuals, and (fingers crossed) proving that we can all make a difference, regardless of how much time, money, and knowledge we have.
Who am I?
Well, certainly not a pro in sustainability. But I do play rugby for a living, and sport is all about creating marginal gains, focusing on the process, and trusting that, that will give you the outcome. Wingers can’t all be Usain Bolt’s, and 9s can’t all be Jessica Ennis Hill’s, though that would be brilliant. But across the team, if we all shave a few milliseconds off our 5m speed, increase our squat by a few kgs, even just sort out our sleeping routines, well then we may just have made enough small changes that result in big impacts, achieving goals that matter, winning a World Cup even.
Helping the planet out is just the same. Lots of people all over the world making small changes, and if they lead to bigger changes, then brilliant. But if we all at least take a few steps down towards Wonderland then the planet will be far better off, and so will we.
